Sarah has been making toys for 25 years and was inspired to create Sarah's Silks while raising her three sons with imagination play during their Waldorf education. Drawing from the philosophies of Waldorf education and her own childhood of imaginative play, Sarah has created a range of playsilks and other natural, eco-friendly wooden and silk toys in solid, enchanted, earth-tone and many other palettes.

For over 25 years, Sarah and her team have created these simple and open-ended toy range including her famous coloured playsilks which she produces from Habotai Silk, an ancient product from China.

A natural and sustainable product, this silk is produced by caterpillars which exclusively eat mulberry leaves.  They are often fed by hand on family farms and no pesticides or chemicals are used as the caterpillars and moths are sensitive.  Sarah's Silk playsilks are then hand-hemmed by women in their homes in one village near Suzjou, all of whom are paid an above-average rate per piece.  Sarah visits the silk farms and the seamstresses yearly and feel good about supporting the silk industry as she feels it is a eco-friendly positive product from China.

If you're looking for open-ended toy options (i.e. your kids can play with it any way they choose, there are no instructions!) this is a wonderfully innovative idea which may not be in the toybox at home yet!
